Emergency Preparedness

Los Angeles Department of Aging (LADOA) realized the critical need to plan for effective responses and identifies resources for assisting older adults in the City, especially frail, older adults.

As a result, early in 2005, LADOA realized that a special task group representing the City's aging services resources needed to be organized to assess the current situation, gather information and physical resources, and roll out plans and practice procedures for best responses for older adults in citywide emergencies.

Some of the priorities of the Emergency Preparedness Committee include:

  • Assessing current resources.
  • Design a Community Profile inventory.
  • Design a Voluntary Special Emergency Registry program.
  • Develop partnerships with other City entities that could provide resources for emergency response.
  • Plan specialized emergency response programs for homebound and frail adults.

More information about the Emergency Preparedness Plan and Activities will be available in Fall of 2008.
